If the Breeder is unable to take the puppy back the Breeder will do everything possible to assist the buyer to re-home the puppy and a decision will be made jointly as to how to best facilitate this.

8.Seller may cancel the sale prior to Buyer taking possession of the puppy in the event that Buyer has given false information to Dardanian Stafford’s regarding their ability to provide an appropriate home for a Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

Health Guarantee

The following stipulations constitute the Dardanians Staffordshire Bull Terriers health guarantee.

Health Testing

Dardanians.Staffordshire Bull Terriers are tested for the following conditions.

L2 HGA

L-2-HGA (L-2-hydroxyglutaric aciduria) in Staffordshire Bull Terriers is a neurometabolic disorder characterised by elevated levels of L-2-hydroxyglutaric acid in urine, plasma and cerebrospinal fluid.

L-2-HGA affects the central nervous system, with clinical signs usually apparent between 6 months and one year (although they can appear later). Symptoms include epileptic seizures, "wobbly" gait, tremors, muscle stiffness as a result of exercise or excitement and altered behaviour.

The mutation, or change to the structure of the gene, probably occurred spontaneously in a single dog but once in the population has been inherited from generation to generation like any other gene. The disorder shows an autosomal recessive mode of inheritance: two copies of the defective gene (one inherited from each parent) have to be present for a dog to be affected
by the disease. Individuals with one copy of the defective gene and one copy of the normal gene - called carriers - show no symptoms but can pass the defective gene onto their offspring. When two apparently healthy carriers are crossed, 25% (on average) of the offspring will be affected by the disease, 25% will be clear and the remaining 50% will themselves be carriers

The mutation responsible for the disease has recently been identified at the Animal Health Trust. Using the information from this research, they have developed a DNA test for the disease. This test not only diagnoses dogs affected with this disease but can also detect those dogs which are
carriers, displaying no symptoms of the disease but able to produce affected pups. Carriers could not be detected by the tests previously available, which involved either a blood, or urine test detecting elevated levels of L-2-hydroxyglutarate or magnetic resonance imaging. Under most
circumstances, there will be a much greater number of carriers than affected animals in a population. It is important to eliminate such carriers from a breeding population since they represent a hidden reservoir of the disease that can produce affected dogs at any time.

When breeders submit their dogs blood to be tested they receive a certificate which contains results identifying their dog as belonging to one of three categories:

CLEAR:
the dog has 2 copies of the normal gene and will neither develop
L-2-HGA, nor pass a copy of the L-2-HGA gene to any of its offspring.

CARRIER:
the dog has one copy of the normal gene and one copy of the mutant
gene that causes L-2-HGA. It will not develop L-2-HGA but will pass on the
L-2-HGA gene to 50% (on average) of its offspring.

AFFECTED:
the dog has two copies of the L-2-HGA mutation and is affected
with L-2-HGA. It will develop L-2-HGA at some stage during its lifetime, assuming it lives to an appropriate age.

Carriers can still be bred to clear dogs. On average, 50% of such a litter will be clear and 50% carriers; there can be no affecteds produced from such a mating. Pups which will be used for breeding can themselves be DNA tested to determine whether they are clear or carrier.

Sire; ...............................................................

Dam ................................................................

These results mean that your  Dardanians Staffordshire Bull Terrier cannot develop L2HGA

There are two hereditary eye conditions known to the breed:

HC (Hereditary Cataract) and PHPV (Persistent Hyperplastic Primary Vitroeus)

HC (Hereditary Cataract)
HC is inherited by an autosomal recessive path, that is to say both parents must be carriers of the defective gene, which causes the condition to produce affected offspring. As HC is a progressive condition, puppies will not be born with cataracts, these will start to develop at a more juvenile stage and will continue to progress until the dog is totally blind. As the condition is bi-lateral, both eyes will be affected equally.

Sire ........................................ = HC– CLEAR by genetic test. This means your pup cannot develop hereditary cataract.

Dam .......................................  = HC – CLEAR by genetic test. This means your pup cannot develop hereditary cataract.

PHPV (Persistent Hyperplastic Primary Vitroeus)
PHPV: The inheritance mode for this condition is not so clear. PHPV is a congenital condition, that is to say it is present at birth. It is known not to be progressive. If a puppy is born with PHPV then this would be detectable by ophthalmic screening from around 6 weeks of age, if found to
be affected whatever the condition of the problem at that stage will not change throughout the dogs life.

It is important that dogs are screened and are "Eye Unaffected" certified before they are bred from.

Sire  ........................................... = PHPV – examined through an Eye Examination, is “Eye Clear” Certified this means he has been found to be unaffected

Dam ........................................... = PHPV – examined through an Eye Examination, is “Eye Clear” Certified this means she has been found to be unaffected

At this stage an “Eye Clear” Certificate is the only test Stafford’s can have for PHPV.  I cannot guarantee that your pup will not be affected with PHPV however breeding from unaffected stock, especially when parents and grandparents have also been tested clear as is the case in both parents. pedigree’s does greatly reduce the chances of your pup being affected.

Other Disorders.

All my dogs have annual health checks with their Veterinarian to ensure they are healthy and I have undertaken to do all testing to identify the status of my dogs as per the recommendations of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Breed Council.  Apart from the Genetic disorders that I have previously outlined being L2HGA and HC I cannot guarantee that your pup will not be affected by something unexpected whether it be genetic or contracted from the environment.  However I am prepared to stand behind what I breed and in the pages that follow I have outlined in detail what I am prepared to do for you should the worst happen and your pup does not turn out to be the happy healthy bundle of joy we were both expecting for you.

Congenital Defect (Unforseen genetic defect the puppy is born with)
If the puppy is diagnosed as having a serious congenital defect within one year of purchase, Buyer may return the puppy for a refund of the purchase price, return the puppy for a replacement of similar value, or retain the puppy and receive reimbursement for corrective surgery (if applicable), not to exceed the purchase price of the puppy. Buyer must notify Breeder by phone within two days of a serious congenital defect being detected by a licensed veterinarian. Breeder must receive a written notice from Buyer's veterinarian, detailing the nature of the defect and cost of corrective surgery (if applicable), within three business days of examination.  If any physical abnormality is detected during the routine checkups at the breeders vets the Buyer will be notified immediately. This includes, but is not limited to: overshot or undershot bite, umbilical hernia, inguinal hernia. Buyer may cancel the sale and receive a refund of the deposit, apply the deposit to another puppy, or purchase the puppy at a reduced price.

In all cases of congenital defect described above, Breeder retains the right to a second opinion by a veterinarian of her choice. Breeder must be provided with the name and phone number of Buyer's current veterinarian. Under NO circumstances may the puppy be euthanized within the first year without prior written consent from the Breeder, (unless in the case of an absolute emergency where the dog is suffering and the breeder cannot be contacted). Doing so will negate any obligation Breeder may have to reimburse Buyer for the purchase price or for any veterinary costs. (Contacted by e-mail would be considered "written".)

The best way to contact me is via phone or email and these are included at the commencement of this agreement and in your puppy pack.

Temperament

Staffordshire Bull Terriers have a history as pit fighting dogs.  They were also used as ratters during the Black Plague in London.  Therefore these dogs can be unreliable around other dogs and also have a strong chase instinct around small furry things.  Not all dogs are like this but some can be in varying degrees.  This is because as much as we love the strong muscular build of the Stafford and its larger than life temperament, all these things come from a strong history of solid breeding too type. Part of that type is also the temperament for which the dogs were originally bred. Sometimes an individual in a litter can throw back to the original temperament of dog aggressiveness, even though the temperament of the parents is not like this.

Dardanians have solid temperaments proven through the lines of breeding.  However we cannot guarantee the temperament of your puppy to be non dog aggressive.

A refund due to temperament problems is not possible.

Contagious Disease

As part of this agreement you are required to take your puppy to the Vet for examination within 5 days of purchase.

Your puppy is provided with Pet Plan insurance for the first 6 weeks of its new life with you.  This should cover you for Veterinary Bills for any contagious disease (such as parvo) in the unlikely event that the puppy should contract this disease in the first 6 weeks after leaving the breeder.  Please make sure you read the enclosed Pet Plan policy documents in your Puppy Pack to ensure you are conforming with all requirements of the policy also there is an excess on claims you should be aware of.

However please be advised that you must take your puppy to the Vet at the first signs of illness or lethargy (Puppies fade very very quickly) NOT WHEN THE PUPPY IS SO DEBILITATED IT CANNOT BE SAVED.  Breeder must be notified of illness within 2 days of onset.

If, within 14 days of purchase, your veterinarian positively diagnoses the puppy as having a contagious disease that was definitely incubating at the time of purchase and the puppy dies, provided the buyer adheres to the above requirements of taking the pup to the Vet in a timely manner and informs the breeder of the illness within 2 days of onset, the Breeder will refund the purchase price. If the puppy survives and you have it treated by your own vet, then it is the responsibility of the buyer to claim on Pet Plan insurance and ensure that insurance is in place after the 6-week period has lapsed.  The Breeder will not accept responsibility for vets bills because the buyer has chosen not to insure their pet after the initial 6 week period.

A clear copy of the vet bill, including testing, diagnosis, and treatment must be received within three business days to qualify for a refund for a deceased puppy.

Please note: because of their solid foundation of good health, good food, and lack of exposure, it is highly unlikely a Dardanians  Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppy will contract a contagious disease. It is recommended that the Buyer use common sense and not expose the new puppy to other puppies, unless you are absolutely certain that all puppies in the group have been vaccinated (eg puppy party at your local vets), take it to places a sick puppy has been within the past six months, or take it to public places (public parks can be notorious for contracting all sorts of illnesses) until the puppy series of vaccinations has been completed.

It is my goal too breed you a puppy that has breed type.  That is, a dog, when fully grown, that looks like what you would expect a Staffordshire bull terrier to look like.  However there is no such thing as a perfect dog. Sometimes the most ordinary puppies can grow into amazing specimens of the breed and vice versa.  Even the most celebrated show winning, impressive looking stud dog will have faults.   Mother Nature is a very fickle thing, as any breeder will tell you, and pups change enormously as they grow.

Kennel Club Paperwork

As stated previously you will receive a Breeders Registration Certificate with your Puppy.  This Breeders Registration Certificate will be in my name as the Breeder and will have my signature on the back giving you permission to transfer your puppies’ paperwork into your own name.  The cost of this is £12 and will be the responsibility of the buyer to complete.  This will then convert your certificate into an Owners Registration Certificate.  It is important to organise for the paperwork to be transferred into your own name as this is proof of ownership of your puppy.  Along with photographs it proves that the puppy actually belongs to you.

On the paperwork is recorded your puppies microchip number and this ties each puppy to the right paperwork.

You will notice that the Owner Registration Certificate has Endorsements on it.  These endorsements are put on to the paperwork to protect the integrity of the lines and ensure that only the finest quality dogs are used for breeding.

Your Certificate of Registration will have an endorsement R on it.  This endorsement says “Progeny not for Registration”.  What this means is that your pup is sold to you as a pet and as such is to be de-sexed and not to be used for breeding.

Nt...Only to be lifted when the said pup is eye screened and an unaffected certificate is shown to the breeder. IF breeding is considered.

I wish you every success with your puppy and know I am only a phone call away should you have any concerns.  Please call me at the first sign you are may have a query, don’t leave it, as most times there is a really simple answer to any problem.
